I hadn’t thought about the game Safely Home in so long! I played it all the time in the mid-80s. I remember my secret “word” (word your parents are supposed to share with trusted adults to ensure you aren’t getting kidnapped) was “jamoca almond fudge.” One time my mom sent a friend to pick me up from school and I was so excited that I’d get to use my Safely Home skills to avoid stranger danger, but when I asked the friend what the secret word was he had no idea what I was talking about and yelled at me to get in the car – which I did, but cried the entire time convinced I was being kidnapped.
