Totally Mommy Podcast

Episode 12

Laimemoms, today is a special day! I could NOT be more excited for this - For the first time ever in our over 400 podcasts I have the one, the only, MY SISTER! on as cohost - Anna-Marie Claassen, mom to Wright and Turner (my fave boys on the planet) is here to discuss The Good: Dance parties like no one’s watching, me being ready to roll into this motherhood thing!, The Bad: I’m missing our Mom a ton, Anna-Marie’s 3 year old is too wily for her to discipline, and The Funny: The things this toddler says! And Elizabeth is definitely bringing fast food into her health conscious birthing center. See if you can tell our voices apart! And Enjoy!

My heart broke when I read “The Bad: I’m missing our Mom a ton.” I know you are but all she taught you is in your heart and that little girl is going to bring her teachings to mind in the most unexpected ways. Blessings on the new parents and their precious little girl. Your account of the birth on ‘Totally Married’ was amazing.

I had a suggestion for the writer-inner who was looking for ways to meet new Moms and create new friendships. I am 9 months pregnant and have several friends with kids, but none of them live in our neighborhood and all the kids are a bit older. So my husband and I wanted to meet more pregnant women/couples that live closer to us so we can set up play dates after the babies are born where we can get some adult interaction. I signed up for Meetup.com and found there are tons of new mom and new parent meetup groups around. I signed up for a couple, went to an event or two and have already made several new mom friends and through them met their husbands so we have new couple friends in the same stage of life as us. They are also a wonderful resource of ideas and knowledge as we all do our individual research on child care and baby things … we even found our day care because of one of these new friends. So, I highly recommend looking into Meetup groups in your area and if you don’t find any that meet your needs - start one. I bet you will find lots of other new moms who want to make new friends.

Wow. It’s like you’re describing my 3- and 5-year-olds! It’s always good to hear we’re not alone dealing with some of the 3-year-old craziness.

Tom says:

Jiu-jitsu is a great sport, especially for younger children. It’s a great way of getting rid of excess ego/making a child more humble (due to the belt system and always being submitted). Also it’s great for self defence (if you ever need to break some creep’s arm) and for building core strength. I wish I’d known about it earlier in my life, it’s so good for most aspects of life! Love this episode, it’s difficult to interview people close to you, but you did a great job of keeping objectivity and not making it too inside.

Co-signed! I was a dancer in my youth and found it gave me a great preparation for the martial arts training I’ve come to love in my adult life. I think both are great for kids. When I see the kids taking classes at my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy, they are so well-behaved and having so much fun! Recommend it for the parents, too!

Great podcast, you guys sound so cute together! Totally get the three year old stage…I’m right there! But hey, they are so cute when they lie right to your face, aren’t they?

Megan says:

To the writer inner regarding talking to the parent of her daughters friend. It’s less important to talk to the parent and more important that you talk to your daughter. Show her the picture that upsets you and explain why it upsets you. Tell her that you love her and respect her. And you just want her to make good choices.

Thank you ladies for a wonderful episode today.

This was an awesome episode! So cool to hear you talk to someone you’re so close to, especially since we got to see one sister giving another advice on something so personal (parenting).
