A VERY special TBASH, where JIM MARTIN helps us answer this HARD ROOT BEER question: Is this your father’s root beer? Lots of twists and turns, and topics for other podcasts, so let’s go slug some wewa, and drink wine at lunch, as only gentlemen would do!

Hey Guys!

Thanks for answering my question! I have a few responses:
1. Thanks for planning doing chocolate milk! My step-mom, the one that got me into the show and Iced Tea Cynthia’s sister, will be very excited.
2. HOW HAVE YOU NEVER HAD CHOCOLATE MILK? It is so delicious.
3. I have never actually had any coca cola beverages, but maybe this will turn into a life changing weekend. And I also agree, it may just be a water situation.
4. I am recording my second episode with my step-aunt Ices Tea Cynthia tomorrow!! I am going to release the first two episode very soon!!! Stay Tuned!!

Danielle says:

THANK GOD YOU DID THIS SHOOTOUT.

I was the desperate pregnant lady from a few months ago that called in with a frantic request for this shootout.

Now, I know to load up the fridge with Coney Island when I push this kid out in approximately 60 days. V excited. Thank you for also clarifying that they aren’t root beers spiked with alcohol but actual beers that are flavored to taste like root beers.

Bethany says:

Congrats JoJo!!!!

Saw your power hour snapchat preview!! I got a little too excited about it and my husband accused me of being a little “too into TBASH”. He clearly knows nothing. Can’t wait for next Friday!!

Debbie says:

We regularly change the pur filter on our faucet, but only because it has a light that flashes red at you every time you use it once it wants to be changed.

Congrats to JoJo and Mrs. JoJo!

Tess says:

Congrats to JoJo and his wife!

My suggestion for the chocolate milk shootout would be to do a couple different brands but also throw in a white milk and chocolate syrup mix!

DT says:

Tess speaks true here.

I’d even say to do a couple of different syrups. I’d be curious to know if it is immediately obvious which are which.

Renee says:

I actually think Sprecher Hard Root Beer was the first one out there that was easy to get out there. I was at a beer show this weekend and they had Sprecher, Not Your Father’s and Coney Island. That was the order I had experienced them in and Coney Island is by far my fav. I took the chance at the show to try them in that order and when I got to Coney Island I was pleased to end on them. Sprecher is different because it is fire roasted and has a more wood taste.

Jason S says:

I had forgotten I’d had the Sprechers ages ago. I remember liking it. My mind is blown by the results of this shootout, as I LOVE NYFRootbeer - to me it’s none of the bad things they said about it, and all of the good things they said about the Coney Island. The Total Wine I shop at has one endcap in the beer section with NYF, and the other end of the same aisle with Coney Island, so I’ll have to get some to have with leftovers on Friday.
I was happy that Jim, who obviously takes his alcohol very seriously said he just uses a rocks glass for his martinis. When I went on my martini adventure, I went to Total Wine to get the spirits, next door to Trader Joes for lemons, and then after we got home and had dinner, I realized that I didn’t have a glass, and I wanted to garnish it and everything. I had to make a special trip to the dollar store where I got a dollar martini glass just so I could feel like I was doing it right. I have heard Vespers mentioned on two podcasts over a few days, I’m gonna have to track down that Lillet stuff and try it.
And JoJo, congrats, go fuck yourself, and go love your family.

Kelsey says:

Oh my gosh, I LOVE the business card with signature cocktails. My father in law likes his martinis mixed very specifically, going to plan to get him cards for his next bday, thanks for the idea. And congrats, JoJo!

Jason S says:

I got some Coney Island, and while there’s definitely nothing wrong with it, I gotta say I prefer the NYF. The Coney is “lighter” I guess you could say, and I could see if you prefer that type of root beer you would prefer this option. My wife who is a huge root beer fan and turns up her nose at most of my alcoholic options, also said she likes the NYF better.

DT says:

Catching up on past episodes a little bit, CONGRATS JO-JO! If the impending Bambino comes on his or her due date, then s/he’ll share a birthday with yours truly.
