11.26.14 | Share: Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
Happy Thanksgiving! It’s our first-ever tasting menu! Heeding absolutely no listener advice, Psychic Andy & Intern Josh go on a study of excess with Four Loko, and special guest: comedian/writer Amanda Sitko! Also: K-Cups, beverage points, soup in mugs, and of course, what they’re thankful for (beverage-wise).

EPISODE NOTES
Wine Tasting Grid (Editor’s Note: go ahead and change “Do You Like It?” to “How Does This Make Your Body Feel?”): http://www.epicurious.com/images/articlesguides/entertaining/partiesevents/epicurious-wine-tasting-grid.pdf
Here’s a LINK to a video Amanda shot after a UCB TourCo stop in 2010 in San Jose, CA of Joe Wengert and Drew DiFonzo Marks drinking original formula Four Loko at a college party before the formula changed:

And HERE is Amanda’s favorite whiskey ice cream recipe (optional: make extra-crispy candied bacon as a topping):
Bill Addison’s Vanilla-Bourbon Ice Cream
Makes 1 quart
Ingredients
1 3/4 cups heavy cream
1 1/2 cups half-n-half
1 vanilla bean
7 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup bourbon (Amanda prefers Maker’s Mark)
Method
Place cream and half-n-half in a saucepan. Slice the vanilla bean in half and scrape the seeds into the cream mixture.
Add vanilla bean to the cream mixture and bring to just under a boil over medium heat. Remove the cream from the heat and let steep, covered, for 20 minutes.
Separate eggs. Combine the egg yolks with the sugar and salt in a mixture bowl, whisking until the mixture lightens. Slowly whisk in a small amount (approximately 1/4 cup) of hot cream to temper the egg mixture. Transfer the egg mixture into the saucepan with the cream and cook, stirring, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon without running.
Remove from the heat. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve. Add the vanilla extract and bourbon.
Chill completely and freeze in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Great photos you guys look like you’re having a blast which I know you did though you do know that one of the photos is upside down. Josh! Uneed to fix it lost your status as being the super intern:))
Love these drunk stories! Only one I have that’s kinda neat was getting bit by a horse during a Halloween party. Not too crazy. 😛 Great podcast, as always.
Elizabeth has Laimewads
Andy has Brosens
But what does intern Josh have?!?
IJiots (like idiots)
Josens (he is Andy’s intern after all)
Joshers (as in just joshin around)
Do folks think straws change the taste experience of a beverage?
Yes! I find disgusting drinks easier to tolerate due to the shortened distance to throat bypassing a greater area of the tongue. That being said, straws diminish the taste of good drinks as well.
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck tyes!!!!!!!!!! Amber is boss as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!
this is one of the greatest podcast eps i`ve ever heard, truly.
i hope you guys stocked up on swedish festive drinks at Ikea (AKA Must in Swedish)!!! that`s definitely one that has to be tried, and it`s only available around the holidays.
Yes! You guys need to try the Glogg they sell at Ikea. And like Monia said, it’s a seasonal (Christmas) drink.
Sounds like we need to do a TBASH Field Trip to IKEA!
Yes, there is a beverage based on sizzurp. It’s called “Drank”, and it’s an anti-energy drink you can find here in Houston. It’s like drinking 4 Nyquils, and I’m pretty sure it’ll take a week off the end of your life. In other words it’s frickin awesome.
A Dollar Store booze shootout is a must. Great pod, guys.
is this a thing you can buy at a store?
Yes, or Amazon

Amanda was a GREAT guest! Loved her, definitely have her back!
Cold brew coffee tip: Stumptown Cold Brew is killer. I can only find it two places in Orange County, CA but can be bought online too: http://buy.stumptowncoffee.com/cold-brew#
Enjoying the show and wanted to ask if you have visited Galco’s Old World Grocery in Highland Park (http://www.galcos.com/)? They specialize in hard-to-find sodas and beers.
yes! a couple other listeners hipped us to this place… possible field trip in the works TBD. good lookin’ out William!
This podcast is insanely entertaining! I hope it receives some recognition because it is a masterpiece!
Btw, why is intern josh called the blue eyed barbadan(sp)?
Foists listen to all the eps to find that out!! I wholly agree if there were Emmys for podcasts this one would win!!! Now go fuck yoursekf trash!!!
Sorry Fosiya spell check is annoying at times
It’s all good O - shen! All the tbash episodes?
When I heard Amanda say she drinks her coffee with “fat free half and half”, I died inside. Half and half is half skim milk and half heavy cream, high fat content is what makes it creamy. The fat free version is just skim milk, tons of cane syrup (read: processed sugar), and emulsifiers.
It’s like “I can’t believe it’s not butter” Is it butter? No. Is it healthy? No, it’s actually worse.
End rant.
Four Loko got my adult dodgeball team suspended from our league for a year. It was our Halloween game and the team decided to dress up. Everyone wore a risky business costume. Tightey Whities, sunglasses, dress shirt, and we played in our socks. The team also decided that we all had to drink a four loko before the game…It was a shit show. One player slipped and hit his head against a wall. Later, that same player put a ball down his undies, smelled and then hurled it across the court. A player on my team threatened to “curb stomp” someone on the other team. And I threw intentionally at my (now ex) girlfriend’s head. The reason four loko is awesome is it instantly reduces you to its level. You become a human version of a $3.00 malt liquor beverage. Love the show!
This is a phenomenal story!
To the iced coffee gal… Starbucks iced VIAs are even better than what they make fresh because they are consistent! I get the regular sweetened ones and whip em up before work and they are perfect! Mix right into water and are presweetened!
Thanks Shea! I have read good things about those packets and will give them a shot since I don’t live near a Trader Joe’s
Hi guys, love the show!
What better for a show about beverages and occasionally hot sauce than buffalo wing soda? http://goo.gl/urVDCT
Perhaps for an ill-advised novelty beverage shootout?
yes. a thousand times, yes.
Agreed. This looks awful/great.
For the iced coffee fan:
If your go-to is a stop at Starbucks and you want the same thing at home, try to find this: Starbucks Iced Coffee comes in 48 oz. plastic jugs. We found it at Walmart in the fridge case right next to all the creamers and such. It’s not the flavored frappuccinos, it’s actually just the coffee (I buy the unsweetened version). It’s $4.50 for the jug and it lasts me all week.
I fill a glass with ice, pour a little half-and-half over it, then fill it up with the cold brew. Perfection!
When I’m more ambitious, I make my own, using this recipe:

Love the show! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for playing the not rambling parts of my story as Eagles Christine (my alter ego that is no longer allowed at parties.) It was quite a night!
Thanks for leaving the VM! so good!!
Another alcohol shoot out idea: cinnamon alcohols.. fireball and goldshlager (spelling?).. idk if there are any others. i think JD has a new one out. i know lots of people think Fireball is the best one out there, but we should find out which is the real best!
There’s one called “Hot Damn” that was my wife’s staple in college, she hipped me onto it, and we still get a bottle from time to time. It’s SO good. I’ve had Goldschlager once but it’s too cost prohibitive and it’s not too much better. I think there’s a lot of generic ‘Cinnamon Schnapps’ by different brands as well.
Ooh! This! I started making my own cinnamon whiskey by just sticking cinnamon sticks in cheap whiskey and letting it sit for a while. AWESOME with fancy cider!
Wow, that escalated quickly.
We used to drink Four Loko before it got outlawed in the PNW. Our friend’s wife tried it once, and remarked “It tastes like KMart.”
And Andy - If you are using one of the Kcup filters, I recommend trying the Whole Foods bulk brand Early Bird Breakfast Blend. It is DELICIOUS. Plus it’s pretty cheap. Runs about $10/lb and is organic.
