Laurel says:

Please! Wee need photos of JoJo’s duck!

Bethany says:

Seriously. I think the duck is made up. You’d think JoJo would at least have Instagramed him by now.

Jenny says:

Bethany, so glad you said something. Pretty convinced there’s no duck. Andy always giggles and there’s this air of shenanigans any time the duck gets brought up. I really love ducks, so I want this to be true, but how can a duck and a cat coexist?!

MattN says:

The duck is real. I don’t care what you all say, it makes me happy to think a duck is hanging about watching the shoot out.

Jason S says:

I refuse to listen to any more TBashes until we see proof of the duck. At least til next Friday. I also refuse to purchase a T-shirt until we see a pic of the duck. Of course I bought one last week. Um, fuck it, just show the damned duck.

Bethany says:

I pulled a total stalker move and looked through ALL of JoJo’s Insta pics. Not a single duck photo. He’s got 2 cats, and there are a few dog photos thrown in there, but I call fake on Mr Quakers.

Laurel says:

Also for ice - in the pnw we have a fast food taco place called taco time that sells drinks with pebble ice(in their freestyle machine) and every now and again, I go and pay $.30/cup for 4 huge cups of pebble ice and store them in the freezer to use in cocktails like the shipwreck and fortune teller. It always feels like such a splurge to use the “fancy ice!”

Jason S says:

we will often stop at Sonic for a 44oz water, which I believe is also 30 cents, just for the ice. They also sell it by the bag for a couple bucks. It was our first purchase to put in our new chest freezer we bought.

Michael says:

I lived off Japanese canned coffee every morning when I was stationed in Japan while in the Navy. You guys barely scratched the surface on these things. There are soooo many different kinds. My favorite was always the Georgia brand made by Coca Cola over there. American Coffee by the company Dydo is good too.

Anyways, to more important things… ECTO COOLER IS COMING BACK!!

Well, I think. Somebody was selling a new prototype can on ebay. I guess it’s making a comeback for the new Ghostbusters movie.

Montana says:

I loved listening to this episode! Japan is such a weird and wonderful place.

As a non-dairy drinker, the only canned coffee I could consume when I lived in Japan was Boss Black. Thank god it was also the “best” one. There is real milk in most of those milk coffees (listed in the ingredients either as 牛乳 or ミルク ). However, I found the vending machine coffee was so bad that I could only drink it burn-my-mouth-hot before my taste buds noticed how bad it was. That canned coffee is only good for long road trips when you need to stay awake (and so you get the double awake benefit of caffeine and a scorched tongue).

Despite this horrible coffee, Japan actually has a super high quality coffee scene. Some of the best roasters and baristas in the world.

Thanks for the episode guys!

P.S. I think some of the bad coffee side effects that are often discussed on this show are a result of two things: 1.) bad quality coffee (unfortunately, I think TJ’s falls into this category… and Japanese canned coffee definitely does) and 2.) drinking too much coffee (gotta be strict about having 1, occasionally 2, cups a day, and never after 12pm). I personally only notice negative coffee effects if I break one of those rules. But this logic sort of applies to all food and drink— high quality and moderation makes the tummy happy.

Jill aka Chitknit says:

Before you do your cough syrup shootout, you need to watch the “In the Heat of the Noche” episode of “Happy Endings.” It’s on Hulu. Love you guys, love the show.

Em says:

I think I found you guys’ next guest while listening to another podcast. Listen to the latest episode of the FiveThirtyEight podcast (from 2/22) and fast forward to about 51:03. Hint: diet crush in a can is discussed.
