GUYS. It’s Japaniel, but I recently moved to Seattle. In Japan, it’s totally common to buy 500ml bottles of chilled tea (black, green, oolong, etc.) from vending machines and convenience stores, and they’re usually $1.-1.50. 2L bottles are also the norm for keeping in the fridge. It’s typically just tea. No citric acid, no phosphates, and definitely no sweetener. Being in the US now, it’s driving me batty trying to find good chilled tea.

Pure Leaf is the first that I’ve been able to tolerate, but it’s so expensive for how much you get. Sometimes, the only respite is getting something from the Asian supermarket, but they charge about twice what you’d pay back in Japan.

If anyone has found a good cold green tea that tastes like green tea and not vomit, I’m begging for advice.

You can find ITO EN tea in many grocery stores in the US now. Why not cold steep your own then put it in a water bottle.

I don’t think good bottled tea exists at all in the US ;( At least I’ve never been able to find one

Eddie says:

Good times with the parents.

We drink all those teas depending on where we’re shopping. Gold Peak comes in the largest containers, usually. Honest T comes in small bottle bulk at Costco. Probably my fav. Don’t think any are as bad as you did.

This episode was great (Yeah I’m a week behind). I got a pure leaf unsweetened in the checkout line for way too much money (almost $2 for the size you have there), but I was thirsty after shopping for an hour, and I’m trying not to drink sugar. It was…not pleasant - it quenched my thirst and I eventually finished it all. My wife tried a sip and wouldn’t drink anymore of it even though she was as parched as I. I’ve had Honest Tea and Gold Peak, but only in sweetened flavors. I liked the Honest Tea, but again, too expensive.
